Posture Correction in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur

Posture work for desk workers in Cheras. We assess how you actually sit and move, then combine strength work with practical workstation changes so that a better position becomes sustainable instead of something you have to keep remembering. Most of the people we see for this spend their day at a screen.

Key takeaways

The short answers

What is the fastest change I can make today?
Move more often. For most desk related complaints the trouble comes from holding one position for hours, so changing position regularly tends to matter more than finding a perfect one.
How should my desk be set up?
Roughly: the top of the screen near eye level, elbows at about a right angle, feet flat on the floor or a rest, and the screen about an arm length away.
Which exercises are usually involved?
Chin tucks, a doorway chest stretch, wall angels and an upper trapezius stretch are common starting points. Which ones suit you depends on what the assessment finds.
Is my chair to blame?
Rarely on its own. Time in one position tends to matter more than the chair, and an expensive chair you sit still in for four hours is not a fix.
When are you open?
Seven days a week, at Sunway Velocity in Maluri. Monday to Thursday and Saturday until 8pm, Friday until 5pm, Sunday until 3pm.

How it works

What posture correction involves here

We assess before we begin, then explain what we find in plain terms, including the parts your care is unlikely to change.

  1. Postural assessment

We look at how you sit, stand and move rather than at a single photograph. Posture is as much habit as structure, so the position you hold through a working day tells us more than the one you can manage for thirty seconds in a clinic. We also look at where your strength and mobility fall short, because those are usually what pulls you back into the old position.

  2. Forward head and rounded shoulders

The pattern we see most in desk workers is the head drifting forward and the shoulders rounding in, often with a stiff upper back behind it. It tends to build up over years at a screen rather than appear overnight. Naming it is the easy part. What matters is working out which bits are tight, which are weak and which are simply habit, because the mix is different for each person.

  3. Sitting posture and workstation setup

Practical changes to chair height, screen position and desk setup, based on where you actually work. With most of the desk related complaints we see, the trouble comes from holding any one position for too long, so moving regularly tends to matter more than finding a single perfect posture. Small changes you will actually keep beat an ideal setup you abandon by lunchtime.

  4. Corrective exercise

Targeted strength and mobility work for the muscles that hold a position over a working day. No single approach changes posture on its own, so the exercise is what carries the work between visits. It does not need to be long, but it does need to be regular, and we adjust it as you get stronger.

  5. What posture work can and cannot change

We would rather be plain about this. Comfort and endurance often improve, and people tend to find they can hold a better position for longer before it starts to feel like effort. What we cannot do is promise to straighten out a fixed structure or hand you a permanent posture from a course of visits. Your practitioner will tell you what is realistic in your case and what is not.

Can posture really be changed?

It depends what you mean by changed. Comfort and endurance often improve, and people tend to find they can hold a better position for longer before it starts to feel like effort. What no course of care can promise is to permanently reshape a fixed structure or hand you a perfect posture that holds itself. We would rather be plain about that, and focus on the parts that genuinely respond, which are usually strength, mobility and habit.

Is sitting at a desk the cause of my posture problems?

Prolonged sitting is a common contributor, though rarely the only one. For most desk related complaints, the trouble comes from holding any one position for too long rather than from a single wrong posture, so moving regularly tends to matter more than finding a perfect setup. We combine practical workstation changes with strength work, because the position you can hold through a working day is the one that counts.

Which exercises help with forward head posture and rounded shoulders?

Four come up most often, and they are worth knowing by name. A chin tuck, drawing the chin straight back rather than tipping it down, works the deep neck flexors that hold the head over the shoulders. A doorway chest stretch opens the pectoral muscles that pull the shoulders forward. Wall angels, sliding the arms up a wall with the back flat against it, ask the upper back to extend and the shoulder blades to move. An upper trapezius stretch eases the neck to shoulder tension that builds through a day at a screen. These are common starting points rather than a prescription, and which of them apply to you, in what order and how often, is exactly what the assessment is for. Doing all four badly is generally less useful than doing the right one properly.

How should I set up my desk?

The usual starting points are simple enough to check in a minute. The top of the screen sits near eye level, so the neck is not held in flexion all day. Elbows rest at about a right angle with the shoulders down rather than shrugged. Feet reach the floor or a footrest, with the hips roughly level with or slightly above the knees. The screen sits about an arm length away. If you work on a laptop, that combination is impossible without either a stand and a separate keyboard or a monitor, because the screen and the keyboard want to be in two different places. None of it matters as much as changing position regularly, though, so think of the setup as the thing that makes moving easier rather than as the answer on its own.

As a medical doctor, I myself, like my fellow doctors, am usually my very own worst patient. I came to see DC Valerie with a back pain which I should have sorted out weeks ago. I was in KL for a short day trip and decided to get treatment as I had the afternoon free. I initially contacted another chiropractic clinic who did not have any slots open but recommended Dr Valerie. Well Dr Valerie is knowledgeable - diagnosed my scoliosis and that my right shoulder pain was due to my mid-thoracic region and that my back pain was due to other issues. Highly recommended and worth it! Need several sessions and self awareness for posture and flexibility - and back strengthening.

I cannot recommend Dr. Rynn enough! He's incredibly smart, warm, and welcoming, which instantly put me at ease. What really set Dr. Rynn apart was how amazing he was at explaining everything. He broke down exactly what was going on with my spine and walked me through the entire treatment plan so I never felt left in the dark. The best part? I was able to get my consultation and treatment done all on the same day. The adjustment itself was fantastic, and I felt instant relief in my lower back the moment it was done. It’s rare to find a practitioner who combines top-tier expertise with such a great bedside manner. If you are looking for a skilled, compassionate, and efficient chiropractor, do yourself a favor and see Dr. Rynn. I would highly recommend him to anyone and everyone!

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can posture actually be corrected?

Not in the way most people mean it. Comfort often improves, and patients tend to find they can hold a better position for longer before it starts to feel like work. Your practitioner will tell you honestly what is likely to shift in your case and what is not.

I sit at a desk all day. Is that the cause?

Prolonged sitting is a common contributor, though rarely the only one. Movement breaks generally matter more than any single "correct" position. The body copes with most positions reasonably well until you stay in one of them for hours.

Will a posture brace help?

Braces can act as a reminder, but they do not build the strength needed to hold a position without one, and relying on a brace long-term is not something we would recommend without assessment. Ask your practitioner before buying one.

How long before I notice a change?

It varies with how long the pattern has been there and how consistent you are with the exercise. Many people feel more comfortable within a few weeks, though holding a better position without thinking about it takes longer. We review as we go and adjust the plan rather than promise a timeline up front.

Do I need chiropractic or physiotherapy for posture?

It depends what the assessment finds, and posture work often draws on both. Broadly, chiropractic care addresses how stiff joints move while physiotherapy builds the strength and control to hold a better position. If you are unsure, message us your main concern and we will point you to the right starting point.

How often should I get up if I sit all day?

Roughly every thirty minutes is the usual advice, and standing for a moment counts. The point is not the number, it is that no position is meant to be held for hours, and a short break taken often tends to beat a long one taken rarely. Setting a recurring reminder works better for most people than relying on noticing.

I work from home on a laptop. Can you help with that?

Yes, and laptops are one of the most common setups we see. A laptop puts the screen and the keyboard in the same place, which means the neck and the arms cannot both be comfortable at once. Usually the fix is a stand plus a separate keyboard, or an external monitor. Tell us what you actually work on and where you sit, because advice built around a desk you do not have is not much use.
