Chiropractic care in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur
We practice the Gonstead method because it is thorough. It involves a detailed analysis of overall spine health and of any restricted segments that may be contributing to your pain. The aim is to work out precisely where the problem sits before anything is adjusted, so that the work is directed at the segment that needs it.
- Assessed segment by segment before anything is adjusted
- We will say so if chiropractic is not the right approach

Key takeaways
The short answers
- Will I be adjusted on my first visit?
- Often, but not always. The assessment comes first, and if it points away from adjusting you that day we will say so rather than adjust anyway.
- Does an adjustment hurt?
- Most people describe brief pressure and a release rather than pain. Mild soreness for a day afterwards is common and settles on its own.
- How many visits will I need?
- It depends on what is driving the problem and how long it has been there, so we will not quote you a number at the first visit or sell a package up front.
- Is chiropractic care safe?
- Serious complications are considered rare when care follows a proper assessment. Screening for the cases where adjustment would not suit is part of why we assess first.
- When are you open?
- Seven days a week, at Sunway Velocity in Maluri. Monday to Thursday and Saturday until 8pm, Friday until 5pm, Sunday until 3pm.
What we help with
Reasons people come in for chiropractic care
Back, neck or joint pain you want assessed segment by segment
A recurring problem you would like to understand, not just mask
A precise adjustment rather than a general crack
Wanting to know whether the Gonstead approach suits your case
What it involves
What chiropractic care here involves
Gonstead spinal assessment
A full six-step analysis: history, visualisation, instrumentation, palpation, X-ray analysis where indicated, and only then adjustment. Working through it in that order narrows the search down before any force is applied.
Hands-on spinal adjustment
Adjustments are delivered precisely and skilfully by hand only, targeted at the specific segment identified during assessment. What one patient gets is rarely what the next one gets, because the assessments come out differently.
Bone and body alignment
Where segments have become restricted, adjustment aims to improve how well they move. How much changes, and over what period, depends on what is causing the restriction and how long it has been there.
The method
The six steps of a Gonstead assessment
Gonstead is a process of elimination. Each step narrows the search until only the segment actually causing your pain is left. We then adjust that one joint rather than the whole spine.

History Taking
Your chiropractor will ask you questions regarding the location and issue of your problem and what activities that typically relieve or aggravate it. These important information help to evaluate your condition and overall health.
Visualisation
By observing your spine, a lot of information can be obtained. The curves of the spine, the level of your head, ears, shoulders, hips and knees; give a visual indication of your spinal health. Often by the way you walk, or move your body give clues as to the location of subluxation.
Instrumentation
A "nervoscope" is an instrument that we use; for the measurement of skin temperature on either side of the spine. The blood flow to the skin is regulated by spinal nerves. An alteration in spinal function will cause a change in nerve function, affecting blood flow to the skin and changing the temperature. This is an important piece of puzzle in the determination of the root cause.
Palpation
Palpation is a method where your chiropractor feels your spine and the surrounding tissues for problems with her fingers. Your chiropractor feels for the presence of swelling, tenderness and tight muscle fibres around. In addition, a full-motion assessment will also be conducted to evaluate each spinal and pelvic joints. A great deal of information can be obtained from every motion of the body.
X-Ray Analysis
The X-Ray imaging is a valuable tool, both in helping to determine where the problem is located and in deciding how it is best approached. X-Rays are used to rule out pathologies, assess intervertebral discs and spinal joints. If your chiropractor feels another healthcare provider would better help you, you will be referred appropriately.
Adjustments
After your comprehensive assessment, your Gonstead Chiropractor will consider all the information gathered to build a clear picture of what is driving your problem, and decide which adjustment is most appropriate. The adjustments will be delivered precisely and skilfully by hands only.

Is chiropractic care safe?
Chiropractic adjustment is widely used for mechanical spine and joint problems, and serious complications are considered rare when care follows a proper assessment. As with any hands-on care there can be short lived after effects, most often mild soreness or stiffness for a day or so. The assessment exists partly to screen for the small number of situations where adjustment would not be appropriate, which is why we work through it before deciding what, if anything, to adjust. We will always tell you honestly if we think chiropractic is not the right approach for your case.
Does a chiropractic adjustment hurt?
Most people describe an adjustment as brief pressure followed by a release rather than as pain. The popping sound that often comes with it is gas moving within the joint, not bone grinding on bone, and it is not a measure of whether the adjustment worked. Some soreness for a day afterwards is common, particularly on a first visit or where an area has been guarded for a long time. Tell your chiropractor if anything feels worse than uncomfortable, because the contact and the force can both be adjusted, and there are lower force approaches we use for patients who would rather not be adjusted in the usual way.
How many visits will I need, and will I have to keep coming back?
There is no honest way to answer that before we have assessed you, so we will not give you a number at the first visit or ask you to buy a package. How a case progresses depends on what is driving it, how long it has been there and what you do between visits. Some people come for a defined stretch and stop. Others choose to come occasionally once the original problem has settled, which is a choice rather than something we would tell you is necessary. We would rather review honestly as we go and tell you when we think you no longer need us.
Can I come at the weekend, and where exactly are you?
We are open seven days, including Sunday, which is usually the easiest slot to get if weekday appointments are difficult. Saturday runs to 8pm and Sunday to 3pm. The clinic is at Signature 2 in the Sunway Velocity development in Maluri, on the Cheras side of Kuala Lumpur, with mall parking if you drive and Maluri and Cochrane stations both within walking distance if you do not. Maluri is an interchange, so the Ampang, Sri Petaling and Kajang lines all reach us. The full address and a map link are in the footer of every page.

What people say after being seen here

Hishamuddin Badaruddin4 months ago As a medical doctor, I myself, like my fellow doctors, am usually my very own worst patient. I came to see DC Valerie with a back pain which I should have sorted out weeks ago. I was in KL for a short day trip and decided to get treatment as I had the afternoon free. I initially contacted another chiropractic clinic who did not have any slots open but recommended Dr Valerie. Well Dr Valerie is knowledgeable - diagnosed my scoliosis and that my right shoulder pain was due to my mid-thoracic region and that my back pain was due to other issues. Highly recommended and worth it! Need several sessions and self awareness for posture and flexibility - and back strengthening.

What really set Dr. Rynn apart was how amazing he was at explaining everything. He broke down exactly what was going on with my spine and walked me through the entire treatment plan so I never felt left in the dark. The best part? I was able to get my consultation and treatment done all on the same day. The adjustment itself was fantastic, and I felt instant relief in my lower back the moment it was done. It’s rare to find a practitioner who combines top-tier expertise with such a great bedside manner. If you are looking for a skilled, compassionate, and efficient chiropractor, do yourself a favor and see Dr. Rynn. I would highly recommend him to anyone and everyone!

Questions
Frequently asked questions
What is the Gonstead method?
Gonstead is a chiropractic technique built around a detailed six-step assessment before any adjustment is made. That includes instrumentation and, where indicated, X-ray analysis. The aim is to identify precisely which segment is involved rather than working on the region generally.
Do I need an X-ray before chiropractic care?
An X-ray gives us a clearer picture of what is happening in your spine: how each segment sits, and whether there is any pathology present. That is what lets the Gonstead assessment name the specific segment involved instead of working in general terms. It is not mandatory, though, and we often go without one for pregnant women and children. Your chiropractor will explain whether imaging is appropriate in your case and why.
Is chiropractic the same as bone setting or tit tar?
No. Chiropractic is a regulated healthcare profession with formal university training, and assessment comes before anything is adjusted. Traditional bone setting works differently and is not regulated in the same way. We would encourage you to ask any practitioner about their qualifications beforehand.
Can I see a chiropractor while pregnant?
Yes, pregnancy is one of the more common reasons people come to us, and we adjust through it regularly. We avoid imaging during pregnancy unless there is a compelling reason, and the assessment and the positioning both change as the pregnancy progresses. Tell your chiropractor how far along you are at the first visit so the approach can be set accordingly.
Do you see children and teenagers?
Yes, the clinic cares for patients of all ages, and children are assessed differently from adults rather than being given a smaller version of adult care. We generally go without an X-ray for children. A parent or guardian stays in the room throughout, and we will explain what we are looking at as we go.
What happens if chiropractic is not the right approach for me?
We tell you, and we do not adjust you anyway. Part of what the six step assessment is for is finding the cases that belong somewhere else, whether that means physiotherapy here, imaging first, or a medical opinion we help you arrange. Knowing when a problem is not ours to treat is part of the job, and you are not charged for a course of care we do not think you need.
